CoverGirl Features First Model with Vitiligo

March 1, 2018 by Alisha 13 Comments

If you’ve been with me for awhile you’ll recall when I first shared that Morgan had developed vitiligo.  At the time I was mad, confused and felt guilty like it was something I had done.  We all know how people can be sometimes by staring and asking questions in a very rude manner.  I decided to educate myself more about vitiligo and I made sure that my main focus would be on celebrating how unique my daughter is and not harp on her differences.

Morgan

Over the last 3 years not only has her self esteem not wavered, I feel like she is so much more outgoing (and definitely more outspoken).  From the beginning, I wanted to make sure that Morgan was able to see other people from all over the world just like her!  And can you believe that as big as the vitiligo community is it only makes up 1-2% of the world’s population.  Thanks in part to Instagram I’ve had a chance to “meet” some pretty amazing people.

A little over a week ago one of the people I follow shared an image of Amy Deanna.  This beautiful young lady was just named as the first CoverGirl model with vitiligo!  Can I just tell you that I screamed for joy like she was family?!?!  For over 20 years CoverGirl’s trademark slogan had been “Easy, breezy, beautiful…CoverGirl!”  Last fall they released their new theme I Am What I Makeup.  This new branding is meant to evoke confidence, power, inclusivity, and self-expression.   [Read more…]

Happy National Margarita Day!

February 22, 2018 by Alisha Leave a Comment

Known to be the most common tequila-based cocktail served in the United States, the margarita is a cocktail that typically consists of tequila, triple sec and lime or lemon juice.  A margarita on the rocks can pack anywhere from 450 to 800 calories, but Sparkling Ice makes it easy to make great-tasting margarita with only a fraction of the calories.  That way you have more room to indulge in more cocktails or eat more food.  The choice is yours…LOL!

On this fun day I’m sharing some great recipes that will take your margarita drinks to the next level and the hit of the party.  My favorite is the Spicy Sparkling Margarita!  Yummmmmmmm 😛

Spicy Sparkling Margarita

INGREDIENTS

2 parts Blanco Tequila

½ part Cointreau

3 slices of Jalapeño pepper

Juice of 1/8 lime

1 ½ parts Sparkling Ice Lemon Lime

DIRECTIONS

Shake Tequila, Cointreau, lime juice and peppers with ice. Pour into rocks glass with salted rim and lime wedge. Top with Sparkling Ice Lemon Lime. [Read more…]

Dinner Time Stories: Tiny 3D Chef Cooks for You!

February 2, 2018 by Alisha 2 Comments

My oldest daughter and I recently had a chance to attend a preview of Dinner Time Stories right here in Nashville!  This dining experience has been widely popular in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the UK and Nashville is the first stop on their North American tour.

The state-of-the-art dining concept is based on the culinary exploits of a diminutive animated character known as “Le Petit Chef.”  Patrons will follow the 4-inch French chef character through a two-hour, fully choreographed, six-course dining experience that explores the route of Marco Polo.  The mood, music, table patterns, exquisite decor and props all change with the chapters of the story to immerse the diner into one continuous 3D projected tale.

5 Places You Don’t Want to Miss When Visiting Santa Claus, Indiana for the Holidays!

December 11, 2017 by Alisha 1 Comment

*Disclaimer:  I was provided with complimentary lodging and tickets.  No other compensation was provided.*

Last weekend the girls and I were invited to spend the weekend in Santa Claus, Indiana.  If you know anything about me then you know I’m pretty much a Grinch and a bit of a Scrooge.  I don’t try to be but something about this time of year just stresses me out and makes me want to hurry the month along.

When the Spencer County Visitor’s Bureau reached out to me I took this as a sign that maybe I need to stop being so Bah Humbug about the Christmas season and try to just roll with the flow.  I mean the city is named Santa Claus  so clearly it’s going to be festive and get you in the mood to enjoy the holidays.

Lake Rudolph Campground & R.V. Resort

The girls and I stayed at Lake Rudolph Campground & R.V.
