5 Ways My Black Won’t Crack!

September 22, 2018 by Alisha 7 Comments

Unless you’ve been living under a rock there’s an old saying of “Black Don’t Crack”.  While this may be true in most cases, if you don’t take care of your mind, body and soul you’ll end up looking a hot ratchet mess!  I for one am not about that life and would like to keep looking “29” LOL  It wasn’t until I reached my 40s before I finally found a perfect combination of things to help me look and feel younger!  Now my knees on the other hand haven’t caught on to that but hopefully they’ll catch on soon!

I’ve also learned that the price of a product doesn’t necessarily mean its going to work the best.  Many of the items I use are over the counter and I splurge on a few products that I know will do what they promise and more.

1 | Maintain a Good Skin Care Regimen

I like to keep my skin care regimen very simple.  My dad is knocking on 80 and I swear that man doesn’t have ONE SINGLE WRINKLE!  And my mom also keeps her regimen simple and has been using Ponds Cold Cream since I was a teenager.  My skin however is very oily and it took what seems like years before I finally figured out a good combination.  I use Bioré® Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser with my face brush, follow that with a hyaluronic acid serum with vitamin C and Garnier Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel Cream.  I’ve been dealing with my face looking like I smeared chicken grease on it toward the middle of the day and JUST learned about gel moisturizers.  And once a week I’ll use my charcoal face mask from KJ Naturals.  I’m also wanting to incorporate treating myself to monthly facials.  😉

Knixwear is Reinventing Intimates for REAL Women

September 12, 2018 by Alisha 2 Comments

This past summer The Nash Gals asked for a few women to come for a body positive shoot they were doing with Knixwear while they were in Nashville from Canada. Since I’ve decided they 2018 is my year of doing things WAY outside of my comfort zone I jumped at the chance to participate.

When I arrived I wanted to run my butt right back to my car. All of the other ladies were blonde, white and not an XL like me!  I psyched myself out and pushed through!  I’m currently at my heaviest and definitely not anywhere near would I would like to be especially sitting in a racer back bra and leggings knowing good and well these picture would be out there for everyone to see 😳

I’m sharing these pics hoping that more women won’t feel alone and bombarded by all the “curated bullshit” feeds that are floating around. Hell even those people don’t look like that in real life.  This bra is one of the most comfortable sports bras I’ve ever worn! 🙌🏾 Knixwear made this medium-impact sports bra to maximize performance and minimize distractions. I’m pretty sure it’ll be my new favorite seamless exercise bra.

Disrupt Aging and Change Your Perception as a Parent

July 11, 2018 by Alisha 8 Comments

**This post is made possible with support from AARP’s Disrupt Aging.  All opinions are my own.**

Twenty years ago if you asked me if I wanted to have kids the obnoxiously loud answer would have been **** no!  Which is why it’s so crazy to think that now at the age of 45 I’m the mother of two daughters.  Having children was something I never set my sights on.  I never baby sat kids and the thought of having any meant “there goes all the fun”.  Even when my husband and I met I wasn’t thinking about kids either then when I hit 28 the baby bug hit me bad!  It was like some sort alien creature entered my body…and the rest is history!  haha

Today my daughters are 16 and almost 9.  I have no idea where in the heck the time went but I would seriously like for it to slow the heck down.  My husband and I always joke about how it was a lot easier having our first daughter because we were younger.  That 7 year difference ain’t no joke!  We recently started talking about how our oldest daughter is going to be heading off to college soon and that being in our late 40s is so different from how we viewed 40s when it came to our parents and even thinking about our grandparents!

There used to be a time where you worked “for the man”,  retired at 65 and then just sat around the house doing nothing.  Well times have definitely changed and now I work for a non-profit, blog on the side and my husband is self-employed!  Now when I look at getting older I look at the endless possibilities of living life to the fullest and enjoying that time with family and friends.

These are 2 people that refuse to be the old, fuddy duddy parents LOL

AARP’s initiative is to disrupt the beliefs that a lot of us have about aging.  The mindset should not be about what you haven’t done or what you’re too old to do but encouraging others you to shift your attitude about growing old into a positive one.  Had a chat with the hubby about the following questions to see how he feels about how things have changed over the last 16 years as parents.  And parenting our 2 girls will keep anyone young! Kick Off Summer with Oliver Winery’s Cherry Cobbler Wine

June 5, 2018 by Alisha 2 Comments

The beginning of each summer brings so many new changes.  It means that my girls are done with school and moving on to the next grade.  This year is no exception.  My oldest daughter turned 16 yesterday and became a licensed driver today!  To say that I’m bombarded with a range emotions is an understatement.  And not only will she be driving on her own but she starts a new job next week…lawd!

Since I work from home I decided that we would just fly by the seat of our pants and not really have any set summer plans.  We plan to do a lot of day and weekend trips.  Tennessee has so many amazing things to do and since we’re centrally located in Middle Tennessee it less than a 3 hour drive to either hit Memphis, Chattanooga or Knoxville!  Heck Atlanta is less than 4 hours too!
