5 Ways to Get Your Deck or Patio Ready for Summer

Warm weather means that we are all wanting to spend more time outdoors. There is no place to enjoy this new sunshine then relaxing on your deck. Your deck can be a safe place to unwind outdoors, especially after a cold winter that we can have! Of course, after a long cold fall, your deck might not be looking the best. However, there are a few quick steps to get your deck looking good as new again and some won’t even take you a long time to either!

Cleaning: The first thing you’ll want to do for your new summer project is clean the area. Start by taking all your furniture off your deck so you have a better idea of what you are working with. Depending on what your deck looks like, there might be a few tips on how much of a small or deep clean you need to do. If your deck just has a few debris around it, you might need to do a light cleaning. Some of that debris just needs a good sweeping. If you compost, it’s the perfect time to add some organic matter to your compost pile. Once you have all the debris swept off, take out your garden hose and give your deck a quick wash down. If your deck really took a beating, you’ll want to do a better cleaning such as getting a powerful pressure washer that can really help get rid of the dirt and grim.  [Read more…]

How to Get Your Patio Hot Girl Summer Ready with Island Blooms Plants from Walmart!

June 10, 2021 by Alisha Leave a Comment

*This post is sponsored by Costa Farms and Walmart. All opinions are my own.*

If you’ve been with me for a while you know I got into plants and gardening last year.  And by got into them I went down the rabbit hole of the botanical world and went from zero plants to about 50 inside and a raised garden bed and about 20 on the patio….oops!

A lot of times I like to peruse different nurseries so I can touch and feel the plants and see what grabs my attention. I think I’ve hit just about every plant shop and big box store within 30 minutes of me and decided I wanted to see if ordering online would be just as much fun.  And to my surprise I LOVED online shopping for plants.  [Read more…]

Kick Off Summer with Oliver Winery’s Cherry Cobbler Wine

June 5, 2018 by Alisha 2 Comments

The beginning of each summer brings so many new changes.  It means that my girls are done with school and moving on to the next grade.  This year is no exception.  My oldest daughter turned 16 yesterday and became a licensed driver today!  To say that I’m bombarded with a range emotions is an understatement.  And not only will she be driving on her own but she starts a new job next week…lawd!

Since I work from home I decided that we would just fly by the seat of our pants and not really have any set summer plans.  We plan to do a lot of day and weekend trips.  Tennessee has so many amazing things to do and since we’re centrally located in Middle Tennessee it less than a 3 hour drive to either hit Memphis, Chattanooga or Knoxville!  Heck Atlanta is less than 4 hours too! With Memorial Day as the official kick off of summer be sure to share a coke with a friend.  The cans in our case had the coolest sayings:  friend, dreamer, better half, bestie, superstar, grillmaster, explorer, legend and bro.  And what better way to celebrate then a block party!  Fun, food, games, kids and more fun!  I live in a cul-de-sac so my block is always the perfect place for the kids to run around in the street and not worry about cars zooming by too fast.  This year we decided to keep it pretty low key and focus more on fun games and let the kids enjoy just being kids…as well as the adults! 😉

To get our party ready I hit up Sam’s Club on a Sunday.  There is nothing like going there and sampling all of the yummy goodies and getting new meal and dessert ideas.  We caught up with the lady doing the Coca-Cola demo and my little one reached in and got “superstar” which is basically what she considers herself.  LOL After that we made our way to the back of the store (nibbled on more samples) and picked up our 32-pack of Coca-Colas.  I’m always in awe of all of the things you can buy in bulk here.
