Can I make it a year without cutting my fro?

January 23, 2014 by Alisha 26 Comments

I can not believe that it’s been over 2 years since I did my BIG CHOP!  I initially did my big chop to be a support system for my tween since her hair was becoming damaged from having it flat ironed all the time and that one time I let her get a kiddie perm.  Well here we are today and my hair is even shorter than it was 2 years ago.  o_O

My natural hair journey has been full of high and lows, but I wouldn’t trade any of it!  I have learned so much about myself and made friends all over the world.  Who would have thought that something as simple as “hair” would have that much of an impact on people.  Now during these 2 years I also learned that my hair is crazy as hell.  No really, “she’s” crazy!  And by SHE I mean…Sybil!  Oh, you don’t know about her?  Well click here to get the full story.

Ok now that you’re up to speed with Sybil and I, let’s take a little trip down memory lane *cue music and fade scene*

On 11/15/11 I did my big chop after having braids in my hair for about 2 months.  I didn’t really plan on going natural again (this wasn’t my first time at the rodeo), but i knew I wanted something different and I’ve never been afraid about cutting my hair off.  My first short cut actually came after I ended up burning off a curl using my college roommate’s curling iron.  I went to refresh a curl and that bad boy fell straight to the floor.  If you could have seen the look on my face!  And this was just before TLC hit the scene so there I was with my pixie cut and side burns looking hella fly!  Even dyed it a golden brownish blonde.  You couldn’t tell me nothing!

In with the new…out with the old!

January 20, 2014 by Alisha 4 Comments

So this week’s post is about trying new things.  For me one of the hardest things I have is sticking to a plan.  I say I’m going to do this or that and somewhere along the way it gets lost in translation.  One of the biggest things I’ve decided to do is actually WRITE down my goals.  Usually I just tell myself that I’m going to lose 10 pounds, workout 3x a week, drink more water…you get the picture.  But what I never do is actually write them down.

Strive for Progress Not for Perfection

This New Year cleaning resolution tips post is brought to you by Mr. Clean as part of a Type-A Parent Community Sponsored Post.

The Jetson's maid Rosie coily locks alisha lampley

So do you all remember when I said to make just one resolution during last week’s Motivation Monday post?  Well I lied!  LOL  Ok in all honesty what I need to work on isn’t really a resolution, it’s more of  I need a maid, nanny, cook and chauffeur!  And since none of that is happening I have to realize that my house isn’t going to just clean itself!  I mean dang it would be nice if it was like on the Jetson’s and  Rosie just came out of nowhere and started cleaning.  But I digress…

I’m sure a lot of you can relate that it’s been kinda hard to get back on track and get the house back in order after the holidays.  First you have Thanksgiving and then you turn around and start unpacking all your holiday decorations, preparing guest bedrooms and getting ready for the big Christmas dinner. After a month of that who the heck wants to clean!  Here are 4 Cleaning tips to help you tackle that mess that still might be lingering from the holidays and get you back on track for the rest of the year!
