Happy Monday! Every year, millions of people make resolutions to eat healthier, workout and lose weight. So people join gyms and spend tons of money on diet programs. The bad part is that more than 1/2 of the people who make resolutions fail….miserably! I think I stopped making resolutions when I had my first daughter 12 years ago. I quickly realized that I kept coming up with unrealistic expectations and was basically setting myself up to fall flat on my face.
Do you believe in making resolutions? Now I make mini-goals that I can actually meet. Last year I attempted (yes I said attempted) to do the 12-week Jamie Eason LiveFit Progam. I made it through 10 weeks and instead of beating myself up about it, I was proud of myself for actually even starting it! Instead of making this long list of resolutions, just make 1. Yep I said one! And don’t beat yourself up if you hit a bump in the road along the way. You can always pick yourself back up and start over. But what you don’t want to do is just say screw it all and just go back to your old habits that aren’t healthy. Experts say that it takes 21 days to break a habit. So if you are drinking soda by the case each day, know that it will take time to change that habit and drink more water.
Another way to keep to your resolution is to have accountability partners. If it wasn’t for the awesome Motivation Monday team I would just talk about wine and nails every week…LOL! This way I’m making sure that my actions speak louder than words and I’m doing what I suggest. During the Winter Break I ran into a lady from Zumba class and we both talked about how we hadn’t been in a few weeks. We both made a pact that we had to do better and would be back in class the following Monday.
So I believe our #1 resolution should simply “be more awesome than ast year”. So what will you do to be awesome this year?

I felt so much better jumping back into Zumba at the beginning of the year. I missed it like crazy!

I have my “goals” and my “streaks calendars” to track and keep me motivated … but as of Jan1, nothing new, I’m just continuing to plug away. I know I probably should shake things up with some mini goals that change monthly. Just one, like you said 🙂
Coily Locks says
OOooo I like the sound of streaks calendars! I’m just sticking with one and that’s it! LOL I may add more but don’t want to get caught off guard too much.

Alisha, it’s so true, we have to have realistic and attainable resolutions so we don’t give up come February!
Coily Locks says
I don’t know why people do that to themselves. I like this to be easy peasy! Enough stress in life without setting yourself up to fail.

Awesome resolution! I like mini goals too so I can stay focused.
Coily Locks says
Mini goals are the way to go!

This is a great post! I am celebrating healthy on my blog as well. I am trying to do better and I can’t even talk about all the things I started and never finished… I think I would be too ashamed. I have the Fitbit Force and I am working to move more and I admit that I have been super sore everyday. One step at a time.. we can do this!
Coily Locks says
We can def do this! I turn 41 in a few months and I need to keep my sex appeal going strong…LOL!

I love that graphic! I am saving it to show a certain someone whom I hope becomes more motivated this year! Thanks for sharing!
Coily Locks says
Meranda that graphic is exactly how I plan to live this year. By being more awesome!

21 days?!?!? Yep, that’s right. That’s just the amount of time it takes for me to get in the groove of a new resolution and then BREAK it! I will stick to just one like you suggested hahahah
