January 13, 2014 by Alisha 22 Comments

Happy Monday!  The best of Mondays for me are the girls are back in school (doing the happy dance) AND I get to share what’s new on my nails!  This week I’m happy to announce that I will be one of the co-host for MANICure Monday!!!  Woohoo!  Please be sure to also check out my other co-hosts, Efie & Mimi, at their blogs!

This week’s mani was basically a “what ever the hell I end up with” kind of mani!  I mean I can’t even recall how many times I redid my nails because each new idea came out looking worse than the previous one.  So I decided to go back to what I know and can’t mess up…polka dots!  When all else fails this is always my go to.

Do you believe in making resolutions?

January 6, 2014 by Alisha 14 Comments

Happy Monday!  Every year, millions of people make resolutions to eat healthier, workout and lose weight.  So people join gyms and spend tons of money on diet programs.  The bad part is that more than 1/2 of the people who make resolutions fail….miserably!  I think I stopped making resolutions when I had my first daughter 12 years ago.   I quickly realized that I kept coming up with unrealistic expectations and was basically setting myself up to fall flat on my face.

Sparkling Pomegrante Cocktail Recipe

January 1, 2014 by Alisha 21 Comments

Happy New Year!!!  What better way to ring in the new year than with a cocktail.

As most of you know, I love wine, wine humor, wine recipes… oh heck anything that has to do with wine is good with me!  So I was pretty happy when I stumbled across a recipe that included wine AND fruit.  I mean since it has fruit in it that makes it healthy, right?!?!  Here are a few nutrition benefits that I found about pomegranates:

  • Pomegranates are often appreciated because they are filled with more antioxidants like punicalagin than other superfoods like acai berry juice or green tea.
  • Pomegranates are also high in vitamin C, with 100 ml containing 16 percent of a person’s daily requirement.
  • It also contains high amounts of vitamin K that helps to support bone health and vitamin B5 that helps the body metabolize, protein, carbohydrates and fats.
  • Pomegranates are filled with manganese which helps to form bone structures during the metabolic process and potassium that helps to maintain cellular functions and balance fluid levels.
  • The fruit is also high in phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc and iron. There is very little fat in a pomegranate and it does not contain cholesterol.
  • The fruit only has 130-150 calories, with around 105 calories being derived from the seeds.
  • These seeds are high in calories because they contain unsaturated oils, sugar and carbohydrates but there is a great deal of fiber and some protein in these seeds as well.

So basically I’m helping you all become healthier by drinking this cocktail.  Hey, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  Ok now let’s get to the good stuff.  How exactly does one make this drink?  Well first you’ll need a few ingredients.

Swirls & Dots Nail Art

December 23, 2013 by Alisha 9 Comments

Can you believe Christmas is just 2 days away?!?!  And not once did I attempt to try to recreate Santa and his Reindeer like I did last year.  Not sure how in the world that happened but here is a cute one that I did last year!  I kept telling myself that I’d redo that one to see if my skills have improved.  Oh well there’s always next year…LOL!

So as many of you know I own A LOT of polish.  And by a lot I’m sure it’s well over a 200 bottles now.  SMH  But the great part of that is that I always have the right color on hand to attempt just about any nail art that I come across.  This week’s nail art is inspired by a picture I stumbled across.  I immediately feel in love and couldn’t wait to try to recreate it!  For the creamy peachtone color I used Sephora by OPI i Give Peach a Chance , NYC Black Lace and the gold polka dots are Pure Ice Bite Me!  On my inspiration they used gold beads but I knew they would turn out looking crazy as hell if I even attempted to place them on my nails in a nice pattern.  No need adding more grey hairs so I just made gold polka dots!  The swirl design and stripes were drawn on using my Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen.

This was my first time using the nail art pen to create this kind of design and I think I’m hooked on those little pens! They make everything so much easier.  The only problem was the black polish bleeding on the sides so I have to remember to apply Vaseline on the sides and cuticles for easier clean up next time.

Linking up this week to Glitter and Gloss, Well Shut the Front Door!, Lipgloss & Binky & LA Lynn.
