Sparkling Pomegrante Cocktail Recipe

January 1, 2014 by Alisha 21 Comments

Happy New Year!!!  What better way to ring in the new year than with a cocktail.

As most of you know, I love wine, wine humor, wine recipes… oh heck anything that has to do with wine is good with me!  So I was pretty happy when I stumbled across a recipe that included wine AND fruit.  I mean since it has fruit in it that makes it healthy, right?!?!  Here are a few nutrition benefits that I found about pomegranates:

  • Pomegranates are often appreciated because they are filled with more antioxidants like punicalagin than other superfoods like acai berry juice or green tea.
  • Pomegranates are also high in vitamin C, with 100 ml containing 16 percent of a person’s daily requirement.
  • It also contains high amounts of vitamin K that helps to support bone health and vitamin B5 that helps the body metabolize, protein, carbohydrates and fats.
  • Pomegranates are filled with manganese which helps to form bone structures during the metabolic process and potassium that helps to maintain cellular functions and balance fluid levels.
  • The fruit is also high in phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc and iron. There is very little fat in a pomegranate and it does not contain cholesterol.
  • The fruit only has 130-150 calories, with around 105 calories being derived from the seeds.
  • These seeds are high in calories because they contain unsaturated oils, sugar and carbohydrates but there is a great deal of fiber and some protein in these seeds as well.

So basically I’m helping you all become healthier by drinking this cocktail.  Hey, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  Ok now let’s get to the good stuff.  How exactly does one make this drink?  Well first you’ll need a few ingredients.

I had a pomegranate mixed beverage for Thanksgiving prepared with pomegranate seeds that had been soaked in vodka since LAST thanksgiving. Yaay to pomegranates.

There is nothing wrong with being addicted. I’m addicted to my wine posts and owning finger nail polish! LOL But I have a whole new outlook on this fruit now!

I actually bought ingredients to make Coquito. However, where Danny and I went for NYE, no one really drinks and I would have felt obligated to myself to drink a little extra to compensate. Then thought better on it.

I love wine and have a ton at home but don’t actually drink it as often as I want. Maybe I should start… it might be good for me. 😉
