Laura of “This is Fit” Workouts

September 23, 2013 by Alisha 9 Comments

Happy Monday!  So last week I took a little blogger’s break because sometimes life just gets hectic!  But I’m glad to be back and sharing my ramblings with you all again.  😀

Let’s be honest here people, some times I don’t feel like working out…at.all!  You ever just have one of those days when you feel like that?

I love wine more than exercise!

That’s when I have to kick my butt in high gear and find something to motivate me to keep going.  About a month ago I joined this awesome group of other women who are stepping up their health and fitness on Google+.  While in the group I have come in contact with some pretty awesome women!  And one who stands out because of her workouts are some of the hardest s**t I have ever tried to do in my entire life!  Her name is Laura and she can be found on YouTube and her Blog.

MANICure Monday | It’s Almost Fall!

September 9, 2013 by Alisha 10 Comments

So now that everyone across the country has officially started school, that means Fall is almost here…yeah!!!  I love Fall and Winter the most because my allergies love them so much…LOL  Seriously it’s one of my favorite times of year and the weather is always perfect for outdoor activities.  So this week I decided to create something to ring in the upcoming season.  I’m calling it “The leaves are falling, the leaves are falling”.  😉

I used Essie’s Miss Fancy Pants as my base coast and then painted Claire’s Sugar Cookie (from last year’s holiday collection) on the tips to represent falling leaves.  And then I used a black sharpie to draw my tree and viola!

Heroes in Heels: After Breast Cancer Fashion Show

September 9, 2013 by Alisha 6 Comments

This past February, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Thankfully it was caught in the very early stages!  She opted to have a double mastectomy, even though the cancer was only found on the side they biopsied.  After her surgery, her surgeon also discovered cancer on her right side.  Since her cancer was found so early, she did not have to receive radiation or chemotherapy.

Sybil’s Buttah

September 3, 2013 by Alisha 13 Comments

Well hello to all my curlies!  If you aren’t following me on Instagram, then you might have missed me chopping off Sybil even more.  Ever since I had to cut off heat damage from last December I’ve been flip-flopping on whether or not I want to grow my hair back out.  Well for now the answer is a big ol’ HECK NO!  haha  But my goal is to actually kick off with a challenge starting 01/01/14, stop cutting and get back on #teamgrowmyhair.

I’m always looking at different ways to grow as a blogger and businesswoman and was so excited when I had a chance to partner with Kj Naturals to make Sybil’s Buttah.  While we were working on making a great hair and body butter, I was informed that since I have a latex allergy that it might be a good idea to avoid natural, unrefined shea butter.  O_o  Huh?!?!  I had NEVER heard that before and decided to do a little research.

Shea butter is extremely well tolerated by most people. However, some people are allergic to substances which are normally considered harmless. For example, if you have a sensitivity to latex, you may react to Shea butter, which contains natural latex, although in very small quantities. A lot of oily fruits and nuts have natural latex derivatives, so if you have a latex sensitivity you’re likely to have issues with avocado, banana, chestnut, kiwi, raw potato, tomato, stone fruits (such as peach, plum, cherry) hazelnut, melons, celery, carrot, apple, pear, papaya, and almonds.  Not to say avoid all of these things, but definitely pay attention to anything out of the norm the next time you use Shea butter or have some of these food items.
