3 Ways I Keep My Daughter’s Hair Healthy & Maintain My Sanity

September 28, 2015 by Alisha 7 Comments

If you’ve been following me for a while then you know I’m team #ShortHairDontCare and part of that is because I have 2 daughters with enough hair for a small village.  Thankfully my teenager is at the stage in her life where she is pretty independent and can do her own hair…thank you Sweet Baby Jesus!  But my youngest daughter is 6 and if I left it up to her she’d be sporting one ponytail.every.single.day.  -_-

Both of my girls came out of the womb looking like they had a lace front wig on.  Their hair was so much easier to deal with when they were younger.   Now I don’t know about you, but spending an episode of Jessie doing hair is just no fun.  Luckily Mo will sit still and isn’t too tender-headed, but I the stress of daily hair styling on her hair (and me) were not healthy.  During the summer our go-to hair style is using 8 jumbo braids because we are usually in the pool a lot and it’s easy to co-wash and condition her hair when it’s like that.  But now that school has started I didn’t want to send her to school looking hella crazy every day and I SURE AS HECK didn’t want to have to do her hair each morning.  I am so not about that life. The Mane Choice: How Much Did Sybil Grow in a Month?

September 24, 2015 by Alisha 1 Comment

mane-choice-review-coilylocks-natural-hair

Last month I discussed the jacked up haircut I got and how I planned to grow the top of my taper cut back out.  I’ve been taking Manetabolism Healthy Hair Vitamin (30 day supply) 60 capsules faithfully and could definitely tell that my hair was growing back well.  Whenever I get the sides and back tapered pretty close it always grows back quick so I expected that part.  What I didn’t expect was for my hair to grow as much as it did.  My hair typically grows 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch each month.  When I measured my hair last month it was just a little over 2 inches on top.  Today when I measured my hair it was just over 3 inches…3.inches.people!!!  Now usually I’m not one for the hype that a lot of HSN (hair, skin & nail) vitamins “claim” they can do.  But I can actually say for me that my hair, skin and nails did well. I Prepoo and Why You Should Too!

September 21, 2015 by Alisha 4 Comments

what-the-heck-is-a-prepoo-coilylocks-alisha-lampley-natural-hair

Prepoo???  If you’re like me, trying to keep up with all the natural hair terminology can be a bit exhausting.  “I plan to co-wash my TWA but before that I’m going to do a prepoo, then baggy it with my conditioner I whipped up in the kitchen with stuff that would normally be used for cooking”.  But let me ease your fears.  A prepoo is exactly what it sounds like!   It’s something you do before you shampoo your hair.  A lot of shampoo (especially those containing sulfates) strip our hair of the natural oils and moisture that it so desperately needs to be healthy.

KJ Naturals is one of my favorite companies when it comes to products for hair and skin!  I’ve been using her products faithfully for the last 2 years.  The first product I started using was Sybil’s Buttah and after that I was HOOKED!!!  That product was basically like the hair gawds came and sprinkled their magical hair fairy dust on it!  And since I could use it on my hair and skin that made it even better.

I want to discuss why I prepoo and the benefits of it…especially if you don’t want your hair looking ashy!  Because that’s just not cute.  -_- [Read more…]
