Prepoo??? If you’re like me, trying to keep up with all the natural hair terminology can be a bit exhausting. “I plan to co-wash my TWA but before that I’m going to do a prepoo, then baggy it with my conditioner I whipped up in the kitchen with stuff that would normally be used for cooking”. But let me ease your fears. A prepoo is exactly what it sounds like! It’s something you do before you shampoo your hair. A lot of shampoo (especially those containing sulfates) strip our hair of the natural oils and moisture that it so desperately needs to be healthy.
KJ Naturals is one of my favorite companies when it comes to products for hair and skin! I’ve been using her products faithfully for the last 2 years. The first product I started using was Sybil’s Buttah and after that I was HOOKED!!! That product was basically like the hair gawds came and sprinkled their magical hair fairy dust on it! And since I could use it on my hair and skin that made it even better.
I want to discuss why I prepoo and the benefits of it…especially if you don’t want your hair looking ashy! Because that’s just not cute. -_-
One of the major reasons that I prepoo is because my hair is bleached. Bleaching hair opens up the hair shaft and breaks down the natural pigment. And it will also strip every last bit of moisture from your hair. Now I don’t know about you but I already mentioned that I think ashy hair isn’t cute so why would you not want to try a prepoo?!?! Not only will prepooing help hair retain moisture it may also help prevent split ends. If you are on “team long hair don’t care” than that’s something you want to keep in mind. Nothing worse than seeing an ashy fro with chewed up looking ends. That’s like a double whammy! Just let that mess go! No one needs that type of negativity in their life! LOL
Everyone has their own tried and true method of how they do prepoos and so far this one works the best for me. KJ Naturals has a coconut oil infusion blend that makes Sybil cry tears of sweet joy!
Since my hair is super short there was no need to part my hair in 4 sections then apply. I basically rubbed it in my hands on damp hair and just massaged it from tip to root all over and then placed my conditioning cap on my head for about an hour. I would have sat under the dryer, but the way my patience is set up…yea that wasn’t going to happen! I promise y’all my hair was so soft when I put the oil on. I washed with my favorite shampoo then applied KJ Natural’s new Neapolitan Shea Conditioner and left that on for about 15+ minutes. Here are a few pics of my before, during and after.
Pay no attention to my Rainbow Brite hair color…LOL! I started off with a coil-out that had seen better days and was pretty dry looking and then picked out my hair. Sybil was practically doing carthwheels when I applied the oil. Hell I think I even heard her exhale from all the goodies that are infused with the coconut oil. Then I finished it off with my go to WNG (wash-n-go) style and Voilà! I will definitely make this a part of my wash day regimen a few times each month!
Here’s a clip of how I get my coils to *pop* when I do a WNG.
Have you tried doing a prepoo on your hair? What were your results and what did you use?

Lovin your purple curls, lady! I’m not natural but I bet my hair could also benefit from using a prepoo product too.

I really don’t condition enough. I tend to shampoo and keep it moving. But, I do like the results you received. I just subscribed to your youtube channel, I will be watching. #productreviewparty
