Help! Mom down, mom down!

October 18, 2012 by Alisha 8 Comments

Phew!  These last couple of weeks have tested every single nerve in my body.  My 3 year old has decided that she no longer needs sleep to survive.  So this pretty much translate to no one else in our home having a good night sleep.  O_o  Y’all just don’t know how much I treasure and value my sleep.  I would pick sleep over food (that’s just how serious it is).

I spoke with my pediatrician at her last wellness visit and mentioned how her sleep pattern was all out of whack and her energy is through the roof.  She mentioned giving her melatonin (1mg) for no longer than a month or 2.  My little ball of energy’s body just laughed at that stuff.  I’m hoping that this is just short lived and we will get back on track soon, but until then the ramblings from this natural hair mom will consist of a lot of reviews of wine.  Please tell me I’m not the only parent dealing with this.  How do you get your toddlers back on track with their bedtime schedule and sleep pattern.  Feel free to share!

Also stay tuned for an upcoming review from one of my favorite vineyards!

Hair of the Day – Braided Faux Hawk

October 16, 2012 by Alisha 9 Comments

Hey everyone! I hope that this post finds you all in good health and doing well. Sybil is finally starting to grow up so I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting with my hair lately. Some have been fabulous and other…not so pretty! LOL I’ve been participating in Kinky Curly Coily Me Castor oil hair change.  We are in week 7 and my hair has grown a lot!  Check out the pics from our week 5 check in:

Sybil is on the grow!

With Winter on the way, I wanted to also try and find a cute protective style since I can’t very well do wash-n-gos when it’s freezing outside.  One of my good friends cornrowed the sides and back for me and then I played around with it for a while trying to figure out what in the heck I wanted to do with the top.

Me channeling my inner Janelle Monae – LOL

Natural Hair Twist Out

October 5, 2012 by Alisha 8 Comments

Well today’s Hair of the Day (HOTD) is brought to you by an old wash and go!  LOL

I know that I need to learn to embrace my “shrinkage” but some days I just want a big ol’ fro!  I mean… is that asking for too much?  I think not!  I wanted to do something different for today because I have a meeting with a fellow BLM Girl.  Ebony of Longing 4 Length is always so stylish and wears her long locks in awesome styles.  I wanted to be super cute for our first meeting…haha

I started off with a day old wash and go.  The first thing that came to mind was how cute those styles are with one side shaved.  So I got ready to shave my head I flat twisted one side with 3 twists going back and then I thought I sure don’t feel like doing my whole head.  Got my spray bottle of water and my Coco Curls styling aid cream and I put chunky 2 strand twist throughout the rest of my hair.  The next morning I untwisted them and picked them out a bit just at the roots.  I love how it turned out and Sybil is so much fuller today.  Hope you enjoy!  What is your favorite style?  Feel free to share below. Bippity Boppity Boobs

Greetings!  For some October only means the beginning of Fall.  For me it is also a time to bring more awareness about breast cancer.  When I was 17 years old, a small lump was found in my right breast.  Normally this wouldn’t be a big concern, but because of family history my doctor took it very seriously.  I have lost aunts on both sides of my family to breast cancer.  Luckily for me, the lump was removed and found to be benign.  Early detection is the best at trying to beat this disease.  At the beginning of each month I perform a self-breast checkup.  Even if you aren’t sure what to “feel” for, your doctor will most likely have a model of a breast and can help you understand what you should be looking for.
