Bippity Boppity Boobs

October 4, 2012 by Alisha 22 Comments

Greetings!  For some October only means the beginning of Fall.  For me it is also a time to bring more awareness about breast cancer.  When I was 17 years old, a small lump was found in my right breast.  Normally this wouldn’t be a big concern, but because of family history my doctor took it very seriously.  I have lost aunts on both sides of my family to breast cancer.  Luckily for me, the lump was removed and found to be benign.  Early detection is the best at trying to beat this disease.  At the beginning of each month I perform a self-breast checkup.  Even if you aren’t sure what to “feel” for, your doctor will most likely have a model of a breast and can help you understand what you should be looking for.

I also have the pleasure of participating in a BLM Girls Go Pink Blog Hop.  The BLM Girls are a wonderful group of ladies supporting one another in their blogs.  Check us out HERE!  Also please take the time to check out the other fabulous ladies participating in the Blog Hop
Here are a couple of interesting facts that I found while working on this post.
*  Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer no matter the race or ethnicity.
*  Breast cancer is less common but more aggressive in women over age 50.
*  African-American women are more likely to be diagnosed with advanced stages of breast cancer and also
have the highest death rate.
*  Native Americans have the lowest incidence of breast cancer.

For the last few years I’ve participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in a group known as the “Bippity Boppity Boobs”.  Love that name!  Remember early detection is the best and take care of yourself.

Great Post!!! I'm glad that everything was okay and I love that you walk for a cure! I walk with the Revlon Run Walk every year since 2007, in memory of my Grandmother Celeste Thompson, My Friend Tiana Kennedy and My male Cousin Hulon Thompson. Early detection is the key. Keep up the Good works! God has a plan for you Momma!!!

Thanks for sharing your story! I've had a few distant relatives who were diagnosed with breast cancer and I'm glad there's so much awareness for it.

Wonderful post! So happy that everything worked out in good graces and the lump was benign. I know it was hard going through that at such a young age.

Wow! As early as 17 you found a lump! Thanks for sharing…opened my eyes to how this can effect people in their teens and twenties.

I know it's crazy to think of happening at such an early age. I really hope more doctors are just as proactive with their young patients as well. Thanks for stopping by!
