Dealing with the Possibility That Your Child Has a Learning Disability #NaBloPoMo

You never fully understand “no two kids are alike” until you have more than one!

My husband and I are the parents to 2 daughters (13 & 6) that are like night and day. When my oldest was born she was the calmest baby ever. She slept through the night by the time she was 10 weeks old and has been pretty independent all her life.

My youngest daughter was a preemie, in the NICU for a week, had bleeding on her brain (possibly caused by birth trauma) and pretty much cried for the first 10 weeks.

Everyone always says to not compare your kids but sometimes it’s hard. My oldest was reading on a 3rd grade level when she was in Kindergarten and my youngest is struggling and still behind with her reading in 1st grade. The other night she started crying while we were doing homework and it literally broke my heart!

Handling Surprise Visitors #NaBloPoMo

Here it is at the end of day 6 of #NaBloPoMo and I had no idea what I wanted to talk about. Well lo and behold I end my nice, calm day with an unexpected guests…my mother-in-law.

Typically I’m pretty good at ~~dodging~~ avoiding the surprise visits from my mother-in-law. I don’t think in the 14 years that we’ve been married that she has EVER called to see if it’s ok to come over. She just pops over whenever the **** she feels like it.

Now in order to keep my sanity and let her visit with her grand-kids I try to take the higher road and just ride it out until she’s gone. Some kind of way my husband finds a way to either sneak out or just happen to not even be home. It’s his mom so how in the world do I end up trying to entertain her. [Read more…]

The Dream Job I Wanted As a Kid…and Still Want Now! #NaBloPoMo

As a kid I use to love watching action movies. Anything where there were cars racing, taking turns at 85mph or doing some “Fast & Furious” type stuff. Yep you guessed it…I wanted to be a stunt driver.

I thought it would be so cool to do those tricks and drive that fast. Unfortunately I still have a lead foot but for the safety of others I’m not out there driving like that. [Read more…]

My Purse Essentials to Ward Off Cooties and Keep Me Sane!

As a mom, my purse is basically what keeps me looking like I have it all together. Key word is “looking”. I work from home so for the most part my purse is used to carry my keys and wallet. Now when we all have errands to do together as a family I have to break out the big purse! I loathe carrying it sometimes but it’s the only way I can make sure I’ve got all my purse essentials to make it through the day!

Being a mom means that my social life usually consists of taking them to after-school activities or other kid’s birthday parties. All of that means extra germs! We all know those little angels are like “walking petri dishes”. So to ward off all those unwanted cooties I make sure to carry these 3 essentials in my purse at all times. [Read more…]
