Acid Wash Jeans Nail Art

October 26, 2015 by Alisha 18 Comments

Happy MANICure Monday!  Since I’ve become obsessed interested in doing nail art the one thing I still can not master is doing gradient nail art.  Ever.  It always looks a hot mess and never what I’ve envisioned I want it to look like.  So I gave it a try and after 3 attempts I got something that looked more like acid wash jeans than gradient!  LOL

OMG, do you all remember acid wash jeans?  I had a pair that zipped at the ankle from Guess and I loved them!!!  I wish I could find a picture I know I took from my high school year book but my yearbook got lost.  So if there are any Rough Riders from the class of 1991 (Washington, DC) please feel free to share if you find it! haha  Since I couldn’t find my picture…this will have to do!

Preparing to See A Dermatologist: Vitiligo

October 14, 2015 by Alisha 4 Comments

Last year when my daughter Morgan developed vitiligo I discussed it with her pediatrician and we were referred to see a dermatologist.  The main sign of vitiligo is color (pigment) loss that produces light or white patches on your skin.  Usually, the discoloration first shows on sun-exposed areas, such as the hands, feet, arms, face and lips.  The doctor was fairly nonchalant about the condition and prescribed a topical cream and to return in 6 weeks.  That cream and time seeing that doctor was a complete waste of time, energy and money.  In fact, after those 6 weeks it seemed like the white spots turned into patches and just gradually got bigger and bigger.  What was even more frustrating was that I learned more about vitiligo from google than I did from either doctor.

Since then we’ve switched pediatricians and our new one feels pretty confident that will get some answers and possibly slow the progression of her vitiligo after seeing a new pediatric dermatologist.  Right now her hands, elbows, feet and knees are almost completely white and the areas around her eyes and corners of her mouth.  This time around I’m better prepared on questions to ask and wanted to share how we’re preparing for this visit.

Don’t hesitate to ask your doctor anything about your condition.  Some basic questions to consider include: [Read more…]

Shuckles Corn Maze & Fiddle Dee Farms

Last week my daughters and I visited Fiddle Farms located about 30-45 minutes outside of Nashville in Greenbriar, TN.  The farm was set up with so many cool things to check out before going through the Shuckle Farms Corn Maze.  After you purchase your general admission tickets you can also purchase “shuckle bucks”.  These can be used for face painting, purchasing pumpkins as well as zip lines.  The first thing my youngest daughter ran to was the teeter totter.  I don’t think she’d ever seen one in person which is crazy.

According to the owners  this corn maze sits on about 7 acres.  Visitors who challenge the big maze should be able to walk for at least 1 hour.  I also suggest bringing some snacks and water since you’ll most likely get tired from all that walking around in circles…LOL!

Locally owned FIDDLE DEE FARMS announced today that you are all invited to attend SHUCKLES PUMPKIN FEST & CORN MAZE every weekend from Sept 26th – Nov 8th. This huge festival’s centerpiece is a 10 acre Corn Maze! We are located in Greenbrier, TN – a short 25 minute drive from Nashville.  Fun for the whole family includes “A-MAIZE-ING” attractions, games, farm activities, hay rides, petting zoo, 200 ft. mine slide, zip lines, food and much more!  Morgan’s favorite activity was the mini zip line…she must have ridden it about 10 times! 3 Ways I Keep My Daughter’s Hair Healthy & Maintain My Sanity

September 28, 2015 by Alisha 7 Comments

If you’ve been following me for a while then you know I’m team #ShortHairDontCare and part of that is because I have 2 daughters with enough hair for a small village.  Thankfully my teenager is at the stage in her life where she is pretty independent and can do her own hair…thank you Sweet Baby Jesus!  But my youngest daughter is 6 and if I left it up to her she’d be sporting one ponytail.every.single.day.  -_-

Both of my girls came out of the womb looking like they had a lace front wig on.  Their hair was so much easier to deal with when they were younger.   Now I don’t know about you, but spending an episode of Jessie doing hair is just no fun.  Luckily Mo will sit still and isn’t too tender-headed, but I the stress of daily hair styling on her hair (and me) were not healthy.  During the summer our go-to hair style is using 8 jumbo braids because we are usually in the pool a lot and it’s easy to co-wash and condition her hair when it’s like that.  But now that school has started I didn’t want to send her to school looking hella crazy every day and I SURE AS HECK didn’t want to have to do her hair each morning.  I am so not about that life.
