The Comfy® Helps Keep You Cozy and Fight Breast Cancer

October 17, 2019 by Alisha 4 Comments

Lo One of the best perks of working from home is that I get to wear anything I want. One of the cons is that since I work overnights, during the colder months I swear my office decides it wants no parts of the central heat. I was so happy when I learned about The Comfy®! This would mean I didn’t have to pull out my little space heater and waste electricity trying to keep myself warm.

The Comfy® & Barbara Corcoran to Donate 50K to Susan G. Komen® in its Fight to End Breast Cancer.

The #ComfyCares initiative is partnering with Susan G. Komen® in launching their new Comfy and Comfy Feet.

The Comfy‘s NEW Susan G. Komen limited edition Comfy! One part oversized sweatshirt and one part super snuggly blanket. This is perfect for any chilly weather walk/runs, a gift for a survivor or loved one of a survivor or as a way to give back! My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago and I’m always amazed by her strength and her fighting spirit. I’m even happier to say that she’s been cancer free since getting her double mastectomy. She is definitely my hero.

The Comfy® turns every situation into a cozy one. With the addition of Comfy Feet, wearers can enjoy head to toe warmth while finding comfort in giving back.

Countdown to Carnival Miracle Western Caribbean Cruise!

August 5, 2019 by Alisha Leave a Comment

In 34 days my mom and I will be living life on the high seas! Our last cruise was to Hawaii and that was 14 years ago and the last time we took a mother/daughter trip without the kids or hubby was probably more than 10 years ago. We are way overdue for a girls trip!

Carnival Miracle Western Caribbean Cruise is a 7-day cruise that leaves out of Tampa and we’ll be stopping in Grand Cayman, Isla Roatan (off the coast of Honduras), Belize and Cozumel.  I travel a lot but cruising usually takes more planning on my part because I want to be prepared since its harder to get things you need in an emergency without paying an arm and a leg.

If you’re going to be traveling out of the country make sure and have your passport and whatever other documents you need.  Leave a copy with family in case something happens.  I also did a post with tips on traveling out of the country.

One of the first things I like to do is pre-book excursions. I found a really great deal online for an excursion that I want to do that wasn’t through the cruise line.  Yea I’m taking a chance by doing it on my own but I’m also saving a ton of money. I’ve read all the reviews and talked with the company a lot and I’m pretty confident we most miss the ship.  And if we do I’ll just start a new life and learn spanish…LOL! [Read more…]

10 Tips When Traveling Out of the Country

June 18, 2019 by Alisha 4 Comments

One of my blogging boo’s Lashawn of Everyday Eyecandy shared an article a few weeks ago about the importance of taking a trip as an adult with your mom.  Well I was already way ahead and my mom and I have planned to kick off her 75th birthday in August by taking a cruise to Cuba.  Well the current administration took a big ol’ shat on our plans and on June 4th they abruptly banned all travel via cruises to Cuba effective…June 5th.  You can still travel to Cuba but there’s like fifty eleven types of restrictions and we had already paid to cruise and wanted to take that route…so on to plan B!  (more on that to come in an upcoming post)

Now back in my day…seriously like less than 20 years ago you could travel with less restrictions.  But since 9/11 a lot has changed and its imperative that you have all of your ish together when you plan to travel outside of the United States.  Here are 10 tips to help make travel easier and save you all the stress and headache of not being prepared when traveling out of the country. 5 Ways to Not Be an Asshole Toward People Dealing With Mental Illness

May 9, 2019 by Alisha 16 Comments

Did you know that Mental Health Awareness month has been observed each year during the month of May since 1949?  I don’t ever recall there being a time growing up that mental health was discussed as openly until I became an adult. I’m glad that more people are wanting to get help but there are still so many that feel isolated or ashamed about their mental illness.

If you’ve been with me for a while you know I typically discuss my love for all things related to natural hair, my crazy ass kids and wine.  Literally those are the three top things that I feel represent who I am as a person.  But for the last year and a half I’ve also focused on a lot of things outside of my blog.  That would be dealing with mental illness.

For the last three years I’ve been working as a Crisis Consultant for a suicide hotline.  While it is probably one of the most stressful jobs I’ve had, it is also one of the most rewarding!  The majority of my jobs since I graduated from college have dealt with mental illness in one way or another but not as intimately as this one.

I’ve been trying to figure out the best way for a while now to address some of the issues that come up when I’m talking with callers.  I like to just cut to the chase when I’m talking with people on the phone so I figured that would also translate to how I wanted to discuss this on my blog as well.  The only way I figured that would work was if I gave some tips on how to treat people that are dealing with mental illness.   [Read more…]
