Customized Hair Care from Formulate

January 3, 2019 by Alisha 8 Comments

*I was provided with product for review.  All opinions are my own.*

I’ve been natural this go around for over 7 years!  And during this time I’ve probably tried just about every product none to man.  Thankfully I’ve finally mastered what works good for me!  Can I get a curly girl AMEN!  Even my 16yo has mastered her holy grail list of products to maintain her curls.  Which leads us to the youngest, crazy curly girl in our household.

Morgan has the thickest and curliest hair out of the three of us.  What makes it even crazier is that due to us all having different textures and lengths, none of the same products work the same on us.  Morgan’s biggest issues are maintaining moisture and frizz control.  Now that she’s getting older sometimes she wants to wear her hair out and all I’m envisioning is my baby walking around looking like she got into a fight with humidity and it won!

When Formulate contacted me about doing on a review on their customized  shampoo and conditioner I was a bit skeptical.  First I wanted to make sure that it could be used on all hair textures because I’m lucky enough to have a very diverse group of readers and 2nd I was concerned about the price. But we’ll get to that part at the end! [Read more…]

SoCozy Hush Line for Sensitive Scalps

March 8, 2017 by Alisha Leave a Comment

Everyone always gushes over my youngest daughter’s hair.  “Oh it’s so long” and “It’s so thick and luscious!”  While I LOVE her thick &  curly hair, dealing with it on a daily basis makes me want to shave my head.  Wait…I pretty much have shaved my hair off…LOL!  I’m excited to share some amazing products from SoCozy’s Hush line that help make wash day a bit easier.

Every since Morgan started to develop vitiligo, I’ve noticed that her skin is a lot more sensitive.  And as you know, your scalp is just an extension of the rest of your skin.  I have to make sure and use products that won’t irritate her scalp or cause flakes.  All SoCozy hair products are non-toxic and made without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic color, propylene glycol, gluten, wheat or nuts.

Morgan and I hit up Target and found all 4 of the items we needed from the Hush Collection.  The tricky part is that we had to look in the baby aisle instead of with the other shampoos and conditioners.  We picked up the Sensitive 2in1 Soothing Shampoo+Conditioner, Sensitive Scalp Serum Balancing Treatment, Sensitive Detangler Ultra-Gentle Leave-In and Sensitive Styling Foam – Natural Hold.  The shampoo has this neat brush attachment that helps to gently massage the scalp and life up dirt and debris.  Morgan’s hair is waist length so I had to spray a good amount to cover all those curls.  It helped make detangling pretty easy but the scent wasn’t my favorite.  I added in our favorite moisturizer and then sectioned each part and twisted the hair with the styling foam.  The next day I untwisted her hair and it was so pretty and shiny! Restore the Luster to Your Hair with Living Proof Timeless Collection from Ulta

February 29, 2016 by Alisha 2 Comments

*Disclosure:  This post was sponsored by Ulta as part of a Blog Blast Activation for Influence Central. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.*

As much as I would like to tell Father Time to let Sybil (my hair) and I just be great, I realize that is no longer an option.  We constantly torture our hair in the name of beauty. As those pesky greys advance at an alarming rate, the gap between coloring our hair gets shorter and shorter and we find ourselves exposing our hair to chemical processes that strip our locks of their natural luster and splendor. We can enjoy the beautiful hair reminiscent of our youth, and protect our investment in it, too, using a regimen of products that cater to our hair’s current needs.

I’ve been coloring my hair for so many years that I didn’t realize how much grey hair I had until I started letting some of my purple hair grow out.  Lawd!!!  I had no clue all of that was hiding up underneath there.  And I promise you as I get older, those hairs grow at a rate that is quite possibly faster than the speed of light…seriously!

Since I can’t reverse time or slow down the aging process, I can at least use products on my hair that will help combat some of the stress I put on my tresses.  Available only at Ulta Beauty, the Living Proof Timeless Collection includes not only shampoo, conditioner and plumping mousse but it includes a pre-shampoo treatment as well.  All of my naturals can definitely relate to a pre-poo!  Even those with relaxed, naturally straight or multi-ethnic hair will love using a pre-treatment shampoo!  I also love that it’s formulated specifically for color treated hair!   [Read more…]

Sybil Gets Her 1st Sew-in!

January 27, 2016 by Alisha 4 Comments

Last month I had the pleasure of hanging out with talented Maria of The Maria Antoinette!  Maria and I first “met” when she and LaQuisha of Corner Curl Girl over 3 years ago when they had a 30-day natural hair challenge.  That’s the first of 2 challenges I’ve actually completed in the last few years by the way…LOL!  I’ve had the chance to witness Maria’s business and following grow tremendously over the years and so happy to be able to call her a friend.  Not only is she the bomb with hair and makeup, she is genuinely a nice person as well.  Nothing worse than someone being pretty on the outside with a heart of stone!

You all know that I’m not for long hair, but what I’ve been wanting since I got my taper cut was for the top to have more length.  Shrinkage is the debil and it didn’t help that my last 2 cuts totally jacked up the length on top.  -_-  I showed Maria a picture on instagram and we just knew we had to recreate that look.  I’ve never had a sew-in before so this was all new territory for me.
