How to Celebrate National Picnic Day with Flair

April 22, 2017 by Alisha Leave a Comment

National Picnic Day falls on the 23rd day of April each year.  Who knew there was day for this, but I’m not one to turn down an opportunity to hang with my girls and enjoy some grown up drinks and appetizers!  Picnic comes from the French word piquenique which means a meal eaten outdoors.  I’m typically anti-nature but the weather has been amazing so I couldn’t pass that up!

This year I had the pleasure of enjoying an afternoon picnic with 4 other amazing women: Malia of Lia Went Where, ,  Melissa of Fab Glance, Kay of I Am Kay Elle and Tomiko of Passports & Grubs.

No picnic would be complete without a nice spread!  You can either go all out or you can keep it simple.  If you’re going to get together with a group you can have everyone bring a dish to keep it easier.  We had a nice mix of meats, cheeses, crackers, dessert, dips, fruit, cocktails and dessert!  Basically all of the major food groups!  LOL   [Read more…]

Don’t Let Period Pain Cramp Your Daughter’s Life – Advil® Menstrual Pain

November 30, 2016 by Alisha 3 Comments

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #Sponsored #WhatMonthlyPain #CollectiveBias

I recall how excited I was when I was about 11 and started my period.  My friend and I were literally jumping up and down.  Looking back on that night 30+ years later, I have NO clue what the heck we were celebrating…LOL!  Because my mom and I both started pretty young, I made sure to start education my daughter about changes that would occur in her body when she was about 9.  Being a teenager is already stressful enough. Then add in the emotional and physical toll that monthly periods can take on your body and you have one “interesting” daughter on your hands.  My oldest daughter typically has the same PMS type symptoms leading up to and during her period: mood swings, headaches (sometimes migraines) and cramps.  Advil® Menstrual Pain is here to help relieve the aches and pains associated during this time.

Thanks goodness I can now find this product at Walmart.  The trick is to make sure and check the bottom shelf where period relief items are located.  I went searching for them with all of the other types of Advil® and couldn’t find it…LOL!

Each month I also like to surprise my daughter with a goodie basket of items that will help with her pain relief as well as a few “treats”.  I typically include her favorite candy or chips, a bath item and tissue!  The tissue is really for both of us…LOL!  I mean who doesn’t cry during the month.  And sometimes being a parent is hard and you just need a good cry!  The basket I got her this month included Advil® Menstrual Pain, Nestlé® Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups, Kleenex® and body scrub for the shower.

I’m so excited to share this with you, I can’t hold it in! #TrustImpressa

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post about Poise Impressa and why I #TrustImpressa, but all opinions are my own.

If you’ve been with me for a while then you know I really don’t have much of a filter and tell it like it is.  I mean life is too short to sugar coat stuff and no one likes to feel like they are the only one dealing with an embarrassing condition.  Well I’m so excited to share this news with you and I can no longer hold it in….literally!

Remember when you were young and you always said those grown up diapers were for old people?  If only that were true!  LOL   Mother Time and having children has not been so kind to my bladder.  Between me trying to be more active, dealing with allergies and my love for laughter my poor bladder just ain’t what it used it to be.

Make Meal Planning Easy During Stressful Times with Dream Dinners & ShareCrate

June 10, 2016 by Alisha 11 Comments

While I may be a grown-up AND a mom…one of the things I have no desire or passion for is cooking.  I mean if it were up to me we would probably eat cereal or mac-n-cheese all the time, but this thing called being an adult *shudder* means that I have to make sure and feed my family healthy meals.  -_-

Last month I started a new job as a crisis counselor (more on that to come later) and the thought of meal planning makes me want to run away from home even more.  Each week I tell myself I’m going to look on Pinterest and start planning meals like all of those other perfect moms out there.  And each week I fail miserably and we eat out entirely too much or spend hours each week asking “What do you want to eat?”  Yeah, that question is starting to get pretty old around these parts!

Dream Dinners, a national meal-assembly company known for bringing families together around the dinner table, announces the launch of Dream Dinners & ShareCrate. This care package allows customers to ship easy, homemade and affordable frozen meals to friends and family members experiencing a life moment like the birth of a new baby, the death of a loved one, moving across the country or even starting a new job!

Earlier this spring Dream Dinners/ShareCrate invited me and a bunch of other lovely bloggers to a tasting of some of their most requested meals.  We were treated to great food, conversation and drinks.

Dream Dinners ShareCrate is like the meal planning gawds from above flew down and decided to make our lives easier.  The meals are prepared fresh, frozen and shipped to your home.  No shopping, dragging the family to the store kicking and screaming (me included) and no drama!  Now there are a few things I like to prepare like quiche…and well, er uh….heck I guess that’s it!

With your package you get a paper card for each meal you prepare with complete, fool proof cooking instructions.  It’s also an amazing way to get the kids more involved with dinner prep too!  My teenager has actually turned into quite the little “wanna be chef” so it’s nice when she can help out.

Dream Dinners ShareCrate includes three easy-to- prepare meals. Each meal in the medium option ($89, plus shipping) feeds 2-3 people and meals in the large option ($139, plus shipping) feed 5-6 people. Both ShareCrate options include the following meals:  Creamy Chicken Florentine Tortellini , Sesame Glazed Meatballs served with Jasmine Rice and Chicken with Honey, Garlic, and Orange served with Oven Roasted Broccoli.  The best part is that everything comes in this cute box that looks just like a wooden crate and inside is a Styrofoam cooler with all of the goodies being kept frozen with dry ice.  There is even a cute “thermometer” to ensure that items have been kept at the proper temperature so that everything is safe to eat.  Here’s an unboxing of what we got:
