National Natural Hair Meetup Day

May 8, 2012 by Alisha Leave a Comment

Hey everyone!  I’m so excited about this upcoming event!  I plan on taking my mom and 2 daughters to the event and looking forward to meeting up with others from the area.

The National Natural Hair Meetup Day is an annual one-day event. Its purpose is to allow the opportunity for women across the country to meet in their own communities while networking, sharing and meeting (virtually) other women across the country participating in meetups on the same day. Natural hair meetups are events designed to share information, techniques, inspiration and products to aid individuals in their natural hair journey.

Along with my latest obsession with hair and natural products, I’ve also come to enjoy LOVE doing my nails!  I’m actually thinking that this other obsession is starting to get a bit out of hand…LOL  Anyway, I’ve dedicated a nice area in my bathroom to showcase all of my polishes.  Too bad hubby thinks it’s one big eye sore, but who asked him anyway?!?!

Between YouTube and Pinterest I think I can create or make just about anything.  Key word here is “think”!   Most of the stuff I’ve recreated has been a complete fail, but you never know what you can do until you try.  So between landscaping, mani-pedis cooking, DYI crafts and homemade products, I’ve been pretty busy.  Check out the pictures below.  And as always keep on smiling because life is too short to sweat the small stuff!

Homemade Flaxseed Gel

March 13, 2012 by Alisha Leave a Comment

Sometimes you just need to leave well enough alone… LOL

So I decided to try and make my own flax seed gel.  #FAIL
The recipe I used was:
1/2c of flax seeds
2 cups of distilled water
*a few drops of essential oil (optional)

What the?!?!

Once you boil your mixture, you will start to see the water congeal.  After boiling for about 5 minutes, remove the mixture and use a strainer or thin pantyhose.  The seeds are really tiny so a colander won’t work and don’t be like me and use tights.  (Let’s just say I did a lot of squeezing for a tiny bit of gel!)Then add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, mix and you are done!   It’s best to refrigerate the mixture and it’s good for about a week.

Now let’s rewind back to why I feel this turned out to be a fail for me.  ——–>  I think my first mistake was using too many seeds.  After checking out other recipes a lot of people used 2 tbs-1/4 cup.  My second mistake was using a pair of old tights.  They don’t make it easy to try to squeeze the gel out.  And my third and final mistake was thinking I was some sort of kitchen scientist.  I’m going to leave all of these homemade concoctions to the “professionals” and go back to studying up on my natural hair topics.

All that work and this is it?!?!

Do you have anything that you tried to make and it turned out to be more of a headache?  Feel free to share the love!  LOL

P.S.  I can’t believe I forgot to share of pic of how the gel worked on my hair!  Actually worked great just a lot of work trying to get that gel.  😀

Game Night with Hedbanz

March 2, 2012 by Alisha Leave a Comment

Game night with “The Lamps”!  So all this week it’s just been my oldest daughter and me hanging out.  After much pleading and whining, I broke down and bought the Hedbanz game.  This game is so much fun!

Playing Hedbanz is simple. After dealing one card and three chips to each player, take your card and place it in your adjustable headband without peeking. When your turn arrives, ask each player a question about who, or what, you are (“Am I a food?”). If you get stuck, the sample questions card offers tips on the types of questions you might ask.

“Mimi” and I with are game faces!

When you get a yes, your questions will become more specific (“Am I cooked?” or “Did Dad serve me for dinner last night?”) until you’re ready to guess the answer (“I am spaghetti!”). For each identity you guess correctly, you’ll discard one of your chips. If you give up, you’ll collect a chip from the chip bank and be dealt a new card. The first player to get rid of all her chips is the Hedbanz winner.

I have a new love in my life!

February 22, 2012 by Alisha Leave a Comment

I am in LOVE! Ok… you know how people say something works well and you watch the infomercials and you think, “That stuff is just for show and won’t work like that in real life!” Well bareMinerals has proved me wrong. My skin is glowing and looks flawless. I picked up the starter kit at Ulta and couldn’t be more pleased with my results. My hubby even said my skinned looked nice and I looked like a chocolate kiss…LOL

It’s so much fun experimenting with makeup but I really wish I could get eye makeup to look like it does when I hit the MAC counter. I’ve watched countless videos on YouTube and I always strike out. Can somebody please come and help a sista out?!?! haha

What is your favorite kind of makeup? What tips do you have to get that runway look for your eye makeup? Please feel free to share!
