Get Those Waves Right with the Wave Glyder!

November 4, 2020 by Alisha Leave a Comment

If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I’ve been rocking a short tapered cut.  I remember the first time I cut off all my hair I kept thinking “What the heck did I do?!?!”  This of course led me down the YouTube rabbit hole where I spent countless hours checking out other gorgeous baldies.

While watching videos and scouring Instagram to find a new barber to help me maintain my new cut I discovered the world the world of Female Wavers!  I’m about the laziest natural there is so when I learned that I would have to brush my hair fifty eleven hundred times AND wear a damn durag I was like “Dis Tew Much!”

Dis Tew Much GIF from Distewmuch GIFs

Then a company reached out about a new product called the Wave Gylder.  This product tackles stubborn hairs and boost smoothness and shine that’s also designed to keep oils and moisturizing products close. Created by a veteran barber who knows the needs of naturally wavy hair, the Wave Glyder eliminates the traditional practice of using a plastic bag and smoothing pad. In other words…less work for me!

The Hassle-Free Way to Lay Down Those Waves:

  • Each Wave Glyder handle comes with 2 interchangeable attachments designed like the palm of his hand and works with his natural wave pattern.
  • The rubber comfort grips on each side of the handle make it easy to “glyde” this smoother through hair.
  • Wave Glyder’s resting dock doubles as a holding container for liquid products.
  • It keeps his hands clean as he applies products onto the attachments and into his hair.

Instead of using the container for liquid products I just brushed my hair while it was still wet out of the shower with my leave-in and gel. Then I placed the durag on my head while I got dressed and that was it.  I’m so bad about actually sleeping with something on my head but I do sleep on a satin pillow case so I figure that makes up for it.

Here’s a video showing how quick and easy the process is to getting those waves just right:

Now the die-hard true wavers out there may actually keep their durags/scarves on their heads at all times. That’s just not a look I’m going for and if I did that who would see my purple hair???

With the holidays coming up this would be a perfect gift to give or to treat yourself.  Not the hardest part for me is figuring out what color I want to try next.  Be sure to check Wave Glyder’s site to learn more.  Who do you think you would gift one to for the upcoming holidays?

Customized Hair Care from Formulate

January 3, 2019 by Alisha 7 Comments

*I was provided with product for review.  All opinions are my own.*

I’ve been natural this go around for over 7 years!  And during this time I’ve probably tried just about every product none to man.  Thankfully I’ve finally mastered what works good for me!  Can I get a curly girl AMEN!  Even my 16yo has mastered her holy grail list of products to maintain her curls.  Which leads us to the youngest, crazy curly girl in our household.

Morgan has the thickest and curliest hair out of the three of us.  What makes it even crazier is that due to us all having different textures and lengths, none of the same products work the same on us.  Morgan’s biggest issues are maintaining moisture and frizz control.  Now that she’s getting older sometimes she wants to wear her hair out and all I’m envisioning is my baby walking around looking like she got into a fight with humidity and it won!

When Formulate contacted me about doing on a review on their customized  shampoo and conditioner I was a bit skeptical.  First I wanted to make sure that it could be used on all hair textures because I’m lucky enough to have a very diverse group of readers and 2nd I was concerned about the price. But we’ll get to that part at the end! [Read more…]

SoCozy Hush Line for Sensitive Scalps

March 8, 2017 by Alisha Leave a Comment

Everyone always gushes over my youngest daughter’s hair.  “Oh it’s so long” and “It’s so thick and luscious!”  While I LOVE her thick &  curly hair, dealing with it on a daily basis makes me want to shave my head.  Wait…I pretty much have shaved my hair off…LOL!  I’m excited to share some amazing products from SoCozy’s Hush line that help make wash day a bit easier.

Every since Morgan started to develop vitiligo, I’ve noticed that her skin is a lot more sensitive.  And as you know, your scalp is just an extension of the rest of your skin.  I have to make sure and use products that won’t irritate her scalp or cause flakes.  All SoCozy hair products are non-toxic and made without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic color, propylene glycol, gluten, wheat or nuts.

Morgan and I hit up Target and found all 4 of the items we needed from the Hush Collection.  The tricky part is that we had to look in the baby aisle instead of with the other shampoos and conditioners.  We picked up the Sensitive 2in1 Soothing Shampoo+Conditioner, Sensitive Scalp Serum Balancing Treatment, Sensitive Detangler Ultra-Gentle Leave-In and Sensitive Styling Foam – Natural Hold.  The shampoo has this neat brush attachment that helps to gently massage the scalp and life up dirt and debris.  Morgan’s hair is waist length so I had to spray a good amount to cover all those curls.  It helped make detangling pretty easy but the scent wasn’t my favorite.  I added in our favorite moisturizer and then sectioned each part and twisted the hair with the styling foam.  The next day I untwisted her hair and it was so pretty and shiny! Terressentials Organic Pure Earth Hair Wash

May 19, 2016 by Alisha 1 Comment

Here’s a throwback post to one of my favorite products I tired when I went natural almost 5 years ago.

terressentials-organic-hair-mud-wash

This stuff right here is AWESOME!!!  I’ve been hearing about Terressentials from a lot of the other Naturals out there.  And the biggest con was that a lot of users said that their hair just felt too dry after using it.  But the pros definitely outweighed the cons so I thought I’d give it a try and I’m so happy I did.  I decided to try the Left Coast Lemon “flavor”.  The scent is heavenly and all of the ingredients are organic.  TERRESSENTIALS Pure Earth Hair Washes are made from gentle, detergent-free, naturally-occurring clay minerals with organic botanical extracts and organic essential oils. Their special hair wash is made from an exotic clay that has been used for many centuries as a
Below is a list of all the goodies that are concocted to make this wash:
Organic aloe vera juice°, clay minerals, organic extract° of organic linden flower°, essential oils of organic lemon°, organic sweet orange° and organic lime°, extracts of organic nettle°, organic chamomile° and organic shavegrass°, essential oils of organic bergamot°, wildcrafted bay and organic petitgrain°.
I decided to try the 7-day “detox” to remove all of the impurities from my hair.  Today is day 4 of my “detox” and I couldn’t be happier with my results.  My hair feels great, has an awesome shine and my husband even said it looked better!  Here is a brief description of how you do the detox:
Day 1:     Three washes, as outlined above (one after the other, leaving the mud on the hair for several minutes before rinsing after the third wash). This is all in the same bath/shower – it’s not necessary to take three separate showers!
Day 2:            Three washes
Day 3:            Two washes
Day 4:            Two washes
Days 5-7+:     One wash
Repeat this entire “detox protocol”, days one through seven above, one to two times or as required, to remove synthetic polymer coating agents from the hair.
So if you’re on the fence about it go ahead and give it a try!  Remember that life is too short so be sure to laugh, love and enjoy the journey!
