Organic Valley – Muddy Waters Farm

April 17, 2014 by Alisha 6 Comments

Organic Valley Logo

This week I had the pleasure of visiting my first dairy farm!  And not just any dairy farm but an organic one!  Organic Valley “…their philosophy and decisions are based on the health and welfare of people, animals and the earth. They are a mission-driven cooperative, owned by family farmers, and we’ve been leaders in organic agriculture from the very beginning.”

Over this last year I’ve been trying to make a better effort when it comes to what I eat and exercising regularly.  unfortunately I’ve been slacking on both of those and I can definitely feel it in the way I feel and by how I look.  Thanks to Leah of Mamvation I was given the opportunity to go behind the scenes and see what the day in the life of an organic dairy farmer is all about.  Leah is a big supporter of healthy living practices to combat disease.

Organic Valley Family of Farms is the largest organic farmer-owned cooperative in North America. Being a cooperative means that the farm families that produce Organic Valley’s organic dairy products, juice, eggs, meat, soy, and produce are the direct owners of the business.

MANICure Monday | #AutismSPeaks Autism Awareness Nail Art

April 7, 2014 by Alisha 8 Comments

April is national autism Awareness month. Autism is a broad term for a spectrum of disorders referred to as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) or Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). They are a group of neurobiological disorders that affect an individual’s ability to interact, communicate, relate, play, imagine, and learn.

The term SPECTRUM is an important part of understanding autism because of the wide range of behaviors and types of problems. There can be significant variations from one individual to another. There is a range of skills and challenges in individuals on the autism spectrum. Children with ASD may have a striking lack of interest, inability to interact with other people or have limited ability to communicate. On the other end of the spectrum are individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome and they may have difficulty with social interactions and exhibit a restricted range of interests and/or repetitive behaviors.

The puzzle piece was used because autism is a very complex and a puzzle to try to fully understand. Many times there are also a lot of people working together with those with ASD. These could range from parents, teacher, behavior therapist, psychologists, dietitians and more! And each of these people together help to try and put the “puzzle” pieces together.

Sing into Spring with your Toddlers & Tweens with these 2 Disney® Soundtracks! #Giveaway

April 3, 2014 by Alisha 25 Comments

If you have a toddler or tween in your life then you know just important music and dance can be.  Not only is dancing a great way to show self-expression it’s also great exercise!  As soon as my 4-year-old unwrapped her 4-disc package we immediately had to start playing them.  She loves all of the CDs and she’s a HUGE fan of the song “Let it Go” from the FROZEN soundtrack.  All of the CDs are great and I’m happy to report that I actually enjoy them as well.

There will be two winners for this contest: one will receive the Preschool set of CD’s and the other will receive the Tween set. Make sure to leave a comment in the Rafflecopter as to which one you’d prefer if you are one of the winners.

The Preschool set includes:

  • Disney Junior® DJ Shuffle
  • Jake & the Never Land Pirates: Yo Ho Matey®
  • Doc McStuffins; The Doc Is In®
  • FROZEN® Soundtrack!
