Happy Wine Wednesday everyone! If you recall from last week’s edition of Wine Wednesday I really love wine and I love a great winery even more. A few weeks ago I visited Monteagle Winery located in Monteagle, TN. The drive there was perfect and once you reach the top of the world, I mean Monteagle, the view is even more breathtaking. The winery is located on top of a hill and the mountain setting serves as the perfect backdrop.
Inside of the winery was a quaint gift shop on one side and a large banquet room on the other. I could just imagine how much fun it would be to have parties or large group tastings. The gift shop had so many cute items and this great chart about the aromatic descriptions of different types of wine surround by large barrels. At first glance I thought “This is a beautiful place!” They even had a bottle stopper with my alma mater – MTSU (Middle TN State University).
The website describes the winery like this “Our wines are produced to reflect characteristics of the surrounding Monteagle countryside. Visitors are encouraged to relax and browse our gift shop stocked with wine related accessories.”
Well well well… let me just say that the only thing I agree with was the description of the winery. I tasted 2 wines and was not impressed at all. They were priced at close to $20 and just didn’t have the WOW factor I like to get when I visit a winery. Also the staff person that was working was quite stand-offish and had an attitude as though we were bothering her. We were not greeted warmly and she did not even ask if we wanted to sample any wines or give us any type of history about the winery. So needless to say I did not buy any wine and couldn’t even tell you what I sampled if you paid me!
Hopefully my next venture to a winery will be better and I won’t do a post saying “Can you believe I didn’t buy one bottle?!?!” Until next time…cheers!

Have you tried Duplin wines? They are very good and the winery is beautiful with an awesome gift shop and restaurant (NC).

No I haven’t ever tried it. Thanks so much for telling me about them! I checked out their website and they even have an alcohol-free muscadine wine which would be perfect since my 3 year old is always trying to get to my wine! LOL

I love wineries too! And your pictures remind me of the local winery tour I took at Chateau St Croix Winery & Vineyard in St Croix Falls, WI, with a friend. We were able to enjoy the tour at a discount we found from the Groupon website. Two bottles of wine and a tour for like $30. It was really cool.
Thanks for sharing!

Now that’s my kind of tour! I just got back from a road trip and was so mad that I didn’t have time (or energy) to stop at all the wineries I passed as I drove through Virginia. I’ll def be on the lookout for wineries with tours now!
