Two-Strand Twist Out on Natural Hair

November 6, 2012 by Alisha 10 Comments

Good day to you all!  I hope this post finds you all in a fabulous mood!

Once again in my quest to help Sybil (my hair) feel like a big girl I decided to do a twist out.  Y’all would not believe the shrinkage that I have to endure.  I did a wash and go the other day and a co-worker asked me if I got my hair cut.  O_o

One of my favorite styles to do to help stretch my hair is a twist out. A twist out is a hairdo where you two strand twist the hair, then allow it to dry by either air drying it or sitting under a hair dryer.  I always let mine air dry since my hair is still pretty short and it typically dries completely by the next morning.  For the latest twist out I started with a day old WNG (wash-n-go).  A WNG is when you simply wash or co-wash (washing only with conditioner) hair, add a styler gel or cream and roll out!  Since the weather is getting cooler, a WNG isn’t the best style unless I want to end up with a head cold…LOL

Me giving Sybil the side eye because she shrunk the heck up! “Damn you shrinkage!”

I sprayed my hair to get it damp but not soaking wet then I parted my hair into several sections and worked a small amount (pea size) of Coco Curls Styling Cream onto each section that I was going to twist.

I love this stuff for my twist outs!

Lawd look at that shrinkage!

Then after what seemed like an eternity, I twisted my whole head!  I’m pretty sure it took me a couple of hours, but without all of the interruptions (ie, kids) I would have been done in less than an hours.

Woohoo! All done!

All twisted up!

Natural Hair Twist Out

October 5, 2012 by Alisha 8 Comments

Well today’s Hair of the Day (HOTD) is brought to you by an old wash and go!  LOL

I know that I need to learn to embrace my “shrinkage” but some days I just want a big ol’ fro!  I mean… is that asking for too much?  I think not!  I wanted to do something different for today because I have a meeting with a fellow BLM Girl.  Ebony of Longing 4 Length is always so stylish and wears her long locks in awesome styles.  I wanted to be super cute for our first meeting…haha

I started off with a day old wash and go.  The first thing that came to mind was how cute those styles are with one side shaved.  So I got ready to shave my head I flat twisted one side with 3 twists going back and then I thought I sure don’t feel like doing my whole head.  Got my spray bottle of water and my Coco Curls styling aid cream and I put chunky 2 strand twist throughout the rest of my hair.  The next morning I untwisted them and picked them out a bit just at the roots.  I love how it turned out and Sybil is so much fuller today.  Hope you enjoy!  What is your favorite style?  Feel free to share below. Finger Coils styled with Coco Curls Cream

October 2, 2012 by Alisha 4 Comments

Today’s hair of the day is also a review on a great new product that I had the pleasure of trying.  I was gifted this product for being a runner-up in a giveaway that All Things Curly had a few weeks ago.

This great product that I want to talk about is Coco Curls styling aid cream.  OMG this stuff is so awesome.  It has a nice creamy consistency and the smell is out of this world.  It’s like a sweet combination of vanilla, honey and creme brulee all rolled up together!

I was starting to get tired of doing the same ol’ wash-n-go or twist out, so I decided to revisit a style that I did a lot when I first BC’d (big chopped).  I washed and conditioned my hair then applied my Giovanni direct leave-in condition, massaged my scalp with my JBCO (Jamaican Black Castor Oil) then applied a small amount of natty moist all over my hair.

Next I took small sections of my hair to work with and applied the Coco Curls styling aid cream and finger coiled my hair.  I made sure that each section was damp before I applied the cream.  This makes it easy to help coil the hair.

My Big Chop!

December 15, 2011 by Alisha 4 Comments

I finally did it! Took my braids out last month and got my hair cut and colored on 11-9-11! I feel like a new woman! I feel so empowered now and who knew how a “relaxer” could make one so stressed! One of the big reasons I wanted to go natural was to help my 9 year old learn to love her own hair. Our society for some strange reason sees more beauty in the artificial and not what makes each of us unique.

I would also love to share my tips on caring for your hair. Everything does not always work for everyone and their hair type, but there are a few staple things to work for us all. The big one is making sure that you are also taking care of you inside and out. Exercise, eat right and be kind to others. I try to always live my life like this and truly believe that Kharma can be a “B” if you do her wrong! LOL
