It’s like, totally tubular – 80s inspired Nail Art

May 27, 2013 by Alisha 14 Comments

Like, Ok. So, this is like a totally tubular 1980s manicure. I mean, like, it’s so gnarly and awesome to the max!

Can I just share with you all that I actually had a dictionary of how to talk like a Valley Girl when I was in the 4th or 5th grade???  I loved that book and even had my BFF studying it and then I promise you all that it took forever for me to stop saying “like” at least a million times a day!  LOL

This past weekend my husband and I attended an 80s themed birthday party for a good friend.  I had so much fun and didn’t realize how much fun house parties can be.  Totally different but being a teenager vs. being a 40-year-old mom, but I still kicked it old school.  I found this cute dress at H&M for $12, I won the angel wing necklace and got the jelly bracelets and neon earrings at Five and Below (store closing 75% off).

Clearly I was really feeling myself so please excuse the “I’m sexy and I know it” face.  O_o  The only thing missing from my ensemble was a pair of jelly shoes.  LOL

Now on to the nails!  My new favorite top coat is Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri anit-chip topcoat.  It dries my nails really fast, it’s affordable and I can actually go more than 2 days before my nails chip.  I used OPI white polish in “Alpine Snow”, Orly’s “Passion Fruit”, Art Club’s “Sunny” and NYC in “Black Lace”.

For my accent nail I used the paint spatter technique.  I painted the accent nail base color in the white then I dipped the straw in the remaining colors individually and blew the paint onto my nail.  Before I started this process I applied a thick coat of Vaseline all around the nail bed.  It made clean up so much easier and all I did was just use tissues to wipe the excess paint and Vaseline off my nail.

Here’s a picture from the evening that best describes how much fun we had.  I’m thinking at this point my husband was 3 sheets to the wind!  HAHA  But I can honestly say we had a great time and I’m thinking I may need to have a house party soon.

For all of my “older” readers, what are some of your favorite memories from the 80s?  I know that I was in love with Prince, Madonna and New Edition!  I even recall listening to my records and being excited when I got my own boombox to listen to tapes.  And what about a home phone with no call waiting and the operator buzzing in with an “important call”.  *sigh* Good memories!
