For the last year or so I’ve been lusting for some time of change to take Sybil to the next level. After my “Can I make it a year” without cutting my hair challenge I thought getting a new cut would pacify my need for a drastic change. That lasted for a few months before I started scouring Pinterest and Instagram for some inspiration.
Last year I had a wild hair up my butt that I wanted to dye it pink. I wanted to do it in support of my mom having a double mastectomy after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. That quickly changed when I realized that I might end up looking like chocolate dipped straw with cotton candy on top!
So back to the drawing board I went! Several of my curlfriends on instagram have been sporting purple and blue hair and I just knew that would be perfect for Sybil. I reached out to a stylist I’ve been following for a while via IG and told her that when I was in Orlando, she would have to hook me up. Alana AKA Primadonna_Lana on IG decided purple would be a good choice for me and I’m so glad she picked it!
Now in order to get Sybil to a rich and vibrant purple we first had to lift my brown. Now when I say lift…I mean we had to L I F T it to blonde. WOW is all I can say when I saw my reflection in the mirror. LOL
So after that initial shock wore off and I STILL had hair (phew) I was even more excited to see what was going to happen with the next step. Alana began to mix the color together with conditioner and apply it to my hair. That sat on for a while and it was rinsed out and we decided to go with a rod set. In all this time that I’ve been natural I’ve never rodded my hair. I’ve been pretty much sticking to a twist out or wash-n-go. And since my hair is in a tapered TWA (teeny weeny afro) it didn’t take much time to rod up Sybil. And once she was done and unraveled my curls…viola! At first when I saw my hair I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry…LOL! I mean it was purple and not just any purple a very V I B R A N T purple.
I’m loving this new color and I feel like a person that has no fear…I feel stronger and more powerful. Who knew something as simple as hair color could change me so much. Heck if I’d known this before I would have done this a long time ago! It’s been 3 weeks now since I dyed Sybil and I’m loving the color more and more each day. I’ve even mastered how to rod my hair myself which is great because it means low manipulation and will help with my goal of wanting to grow the top longer.
So what’s the wildest thing you’ve ever done with your hair? Before this I think shaving almost all of my hair off last year was the wildest but this definitely tops that now! What do you all think of Sybil’s new look and should I venture out to any other colors once this fades? Share your comments and suggestions below I would love to hear them!

It’s cute!!! Oh I need some courage to just chop mine COMPLETELY OFF!! I think the boldest thing I’ve ever done was in fact cut my hair off down to any inch & 1/2 my first time big chopping.
My second boldest thing was getting a $400 red weave for my friend’s wedding. Go girlie! I love the color, especially being that I am a Ravens Fan!!! -Cassie

I love it!! It looks great, so bold and vibrant! I understand the feeling with bleaching your hair the first time I tried I wanted it out within seconds I was so afraid my hair would fall out. Lol, but the color looks great you have me over here ready to color mine ASAP!
