Happy National Wine Drinking Day!

February 18, 2019 by Alisha 17 Comments

Happy National Wine Drinking Day!  What is your favorite type of wine to drink and who knew there were SO many types of wine!

Original Source: Different Types of Wine

There are 5 basic types of wine:  red, white, rose, sparkling and fortified.  Red wines are made from black grapes and can range from light to dark and sweet to dry.  I definitely prefer sweet over dry!  White wines are produced from green grapes and the flavor is typically light and zesty.  Rose wines are also made from black grapes but the skin is removed prior to provide a light color.  Sparkling wines involve a secondary fermentation which causes the bubbles.  Fortified wine making involves fortifying wine with spirits.

If I’m just going to be sipping on wine I prefer a semi-sweet wine one.  My favorite wine right now is Gewürztraminer.  There are also a lot of added health benefits to wine.  Wine grapes also contain flavonoids, which decrease the amount of bad cholesterol while increasing the amount of good cholesterol. The highest number of flavonoids are in red wine. Although drinking wine has health benefits, experts advise drinking wine only in moderation. That means no more than one drink per day for women and no more than two drinks per day for men.  And to think I’ve only been having 1-2 glasses a week!  I’m totally jipping myself out of having better cholesterol. HAHA!!!  With my meals I love red wine and I always try to pair them specifically to what I’ll be eating.  At first I couldn’t really tell a major difference but having certain wines for beef vs. pasta or chicken make a huge difference.  And there are so many pairing tips online that you’ll never run our of suggestions.

Now if you’re like me, you might find yourself using your corkscrew when it wasn’t necessary.  This picture pretty much sums it up.  I’m sure we’ve all been there and if you haven’t just pretend you have to make me feel better!

I like Mascato anything sweet. I don’t drink it often because I’m still looking for one to taste like kool aid or sparkling grape juice. LOL

I love red wines. Sweet reds are my favorite. I tried to hop on the Moscato train but a lot of them are just way too sweet for me. I love the visual! I cannot stop laughing at that corkscrew/screw-off top picture though! LOL!

I never did care for Moscato much. If you enjoy sweet wines def try out muscadines.

While my introduction to wine was mascato, lately there is a sweet red ( some no name brand I found in trader joes) that has become my go to! I need to learn more about wines!
