Happy Monday everyone! So lately I’ve been reading nothing but stuff about how important it is to do strength training IN addition to cardio. For the last 3 months I’ve been going hardcore with my aerobic dance classes which consist of Zumba and Dance it Out. And my legs and butt are in the best shape ever, but my core and the rest of me are just…blah! My goal is to tone up and lose another 15-20 pounds in addition to the 10 I lost over the last 3 months.
I’ve always been a bit leary of lifting weights because for some reason I always picture Jim Carrey’s character “Venus de Milo” from In Living Color!
So I’ve been doing all this sweating and thought to myself “Why the hell is the scale not moving and my clothes fitting better?” Well after doing some research I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. When you skip out on hitting the weight room, your also missing out on one of the best fat fighters! 2 sessions a week can help you lose 3% points in 10 weeks without even changing your caloric intake! And all that new muscle pays off in a long-term boost to your metabolism, which helps keep your body lean and sculpted.
My goals now are to increase lean protein, DECREASE the evil sugar in my diet and add weights to my workout routine.
So are you ready to join me while I embark on this newest venture? And if you are already lifting weights, please share your regimen and what has helped you out the most.

Alisha, you got me over here laughing SO HARD at this post! I, too, am looking to add weight lifting to my schedule, but I am taking baby steps. I look forward to seeing your progress and regimen changes!
Cherese it’s the truth! As I was looking into lifting weights all I was picturing was that dang Jim Carrey! LOL But one of the ladies that works at the Y…lawd her body is awsome and she said she lifts weights. So that was all the motivation I needed!
Omg I saw this clip and laughed so hard! I love Jim Carrey and he nailed it 🙂 love your blog. I am now following you! I would love it if you followed me back!

Lyssa I just love all the crazy characters he did on that show but that one and Fire Marshall Bill were my favs…LOL! Hopefully I won’t end up looking like that after I start pumping some iron…hahaha!
AMEN! I do love me some ST. I really need to set aside time to hit the weights. For the past few months I’ve just been doing cardio. And while that has helped me loose the majority of my weight it’s getting to be time to tone up and get some lean muscle. 🙂
Veronica I just spent about 5 mintues trying to figure out what the heck ST meant…hahaha! I’m glad I’m not alone with wanting to tone up these muscles. It’s just hard because cardio is so much fun but the numbers don’t lie and I want to be tone too. Good luck!
I love weight training. You see such great results in such a short time as compared with other methods of work out. Weight training is so about shaping your body. I have worked with heavy weights and I have never built big muscles, just strong ones.
Good luck with weight training!
I’m even more motivated after checking with everyone and seeing their success with weights. Thanks and I can’t wait to figure out my regimen!
COME to the dark side LOL no seriously, since I started Jamie Eason Live fit, I realized that I actually like lifting MORE than cardio. Crazy right? I know. Bananas. But I am in the gym more frequently as a result, getting more done because my cardio workouts would have me so SPENT–but now rest days are non cardio days.
I’m trying to tone and build muscle now too. The scale just isn’t moving much and I know the reason. It’s just tough ’cause I don’t do pain! 🙂
