Happy Monday to you all! So last week I talked about wanting to add weight lifting to my weekly regimen. Who knew it would be so darn hard to try and figure out a regimen. No offense to the Y, but they kinda suck ass when it comes to getting some help unless you have a personal trainer. And er…uh…the way my bank account is set up right now “Ain’t nobody got time for that!”
Now I will say I get the most bang for my buck from my YMCA because of the Zumba, Dance it Out classes and the awesome indoor pool. So I spent most of last week trying to figure out a workout program that I could do on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I finally found a great one to get me started and couldn’t be any happier. This picture right here pretty much explains how I felt after pumping some iron last week.
You couldn’t tell me sh*t after that 30 minutes I did in the weight room…LMAO!!! So what did I do? Well here’s a quick run down of how I worked it out!
I found this great 12 week beginners training routine from Muscle & Strength. This is what weeks 1-3 are going look like:
Weeks 1-3 | |||
Bodypart | Exercise | Sets | Reps |
Quads/Glutes | Leg Press | 1 | 15 |
Hamstrings | Lying Leg Curl | 1 | 15 |
Upper Back | Seated Cable Row | 1 | 15 |
Chest | Flat Bench Press | 1 | 15 |
Shoulders | Dumbbell Press | 1 | 15 |
Traps | Dumbbell shrug | 1 | 15 |
Triceps | Pushdown | 1 | 15 |
Biceps | Barbell curl | 1 | 15 |
Lower Back | Back extension | 1 | 15 |
Calves | Standing calf raise | 1 | 15 |
Forearms | Barbell wrist curl | 1 | 15 |
Abdominals | Crunches | 1 | 15 |
The great thing about the site is that they also have videos to show you how to do each exercise. Nothing worse than going in the gym thinking you are totally rocking it out and then you’ve been doing it wrong the.whole.damn.time! (insert side-eye to the people who don’t let you know you’re doing it wrong)
I’m determined to tone up and lose weight and end my first year of being 40 by looking like one hot momma! Who’s with me?!?! Don’t forget to link up and check out the other fabulous ladies!

hahaha. That’s the TRUTH! I feel amazing after one workout. I know that I probably didn’t drop any more lbs but much like Hercules I feel pumped up.
I like your workout regimen. I keep telling myself that I’ll get back on the weights soon. tisk tisk

I’m loving this program! Even though I have a whole 2 months left on Jamie Eason (pray for me) I am looking ahead to my next program because I am LOVING lifting 🙂
Coily Locks says
I haven’t heard of Jamie Eason so I’m going to have to Google that…LOL! But I did enjoy the feeling I had after lifting weights!

That Jamie Eason program is a beast. I learned about it on Brooklyn Active Mama’s blog. Had me super sore!!!

Looks like a great routine! Weight lifting will make a big difference for you, I bet. I love it!

As soon as I get a good regimen down and now exactly what the heck I’m doing, then I will feel even better. But I did love how I felt afterwards. After Zumba I’m usually ready to pass out in a hot, sweaty mess on the floor! lol

Does your Y have a Body Pump Class? That is the weight lifting class that I take at my gym (not the Y). I love that class!!! It is actually because of that class that I’ve started using weights more on my own. Now that I know how to do more things with weights and since I’ve learned how to use more of the weight machines.
Coily Locks says
I tried the body pump class but I just wasn’t quite feeling it…LOL! I think it’s because it was so fast paced (since it’s timed and the room is just used for that 45 minutes) and the ladies all knew what the heck equipment to get and what to do and I was just looking like a deer caught in the headlights. But my little chart helped me a lot and I felt like I knew what I was doing…haha!

Weights aren’t that hard to figure out. You should be a pro at them in no time. Just watch the videos and take your time at first to figure it out. There are so many good videos online now it is pretty easy to put together your own routine.

Betty and I had even more fun today lifting weights. Now I just need one of those things to hold my iPhone on my arm. (since I lost my other one) But I can’t wait to make my own routine!
