Earlier this month I had the pleasure of attending a screening of MJB’s documentary The London Sessions during the Blogalicious conference in San Antonio, TX. I had a chance to see another side of MJB that just blew me away and made me an even bigger fan. Do y’all remember What’s The 411? THAT was MJB’s debut album and I’ve been a fan ever since and that album was released in 1992. The London Sessions proves to be one of her best albums! While Mary is still (in my eyes) the Queen of Hip Hop, this album also has a cool pop and club vibe as well. There are the songs that make you want to get up and start dancing and then the ones where it’s like she is singing a song that was made for you. My favorite track from her album is Whole Damn Year. THIS.SONG.RIGHT.HERE! The music and her raw emotion is on point! We all go through things but try to put up a good front and not many really know what’s going on underneath and how we are struggling. Mary has had to deal with way more than many of us and I’m so happy to see her in love and enjoying life. When Mary was recording this album she had a global perspective in mind. And you can tell by all of the great people that she collaborated with to bring this album to fruition. And just 3 months ago there was NO album and she recorded The London Sessions in 3 weeks! I’ve heard albums where artists had months and years to put it together and a lot haven’t come close to this one. The album is set to be released on December 2 and you can pre-order now on Amazon and iTunes. For more information on the album, check out the trailer for The London Sessions. I’m just so happy to be able to hear some REAL music. Everything doesn’t have to be about shaking your arse or sex and drugs. Just singing straight from the soul.
