Warm weather means that we are all wanting to spend more time outdoors. There is no place to enjoy this new sunshine then relaxing on your deck. Your deck can be a safe place to unwind outdoors, especially after a cold winter that we can have! Of course, after a long cold fall, your deck might not be looking the best. However, there are a few quick steps to get your deck looking good as new again and some won’t even take you a long time to either!
Cleaning: The first thing you’ll want to do for your new summer project is clean the area. Start by taking all your furniture off your deck so you have a better idea of what you are working with. Depending on what your deck looks like, there might be a few tips on how much of a small or deep clean you need to do. If your deck just has a few debris around it, you might need to do a light cleaning. Some of that debris just needs a good sweeping. If you compost, it’s the perfect time to add some organic matter to your compost pile. Once you have all the debris swept off, take out your garden hose and give your deck a quick wash down. If your deck really took a beating, you’ll want to do a better cleaning such as getting a powerful pressure washer that can really help get rid of the dirt and grim.
Stain/Seal or Repair: When everything is cleaned off, look at the deck and see what needs to be worked. If you see a stain that is stripped, dirty or cloudy you might need to either restain, reseal or repair it. There are various ways to look on how to restrain or reseal the wood. If you need to repair the wood, look into a hardwood that has a great longevity. Brazilian Wood Depot offers deck wood that not only has decking that is versatile but it’s durability make sit a natural choice for projects and high traffic areas such as your deck area. Massaranduba wood decking is a popular wood for it’s beauty, strength and low needs for maintenance also to make it a leading option for residential decking.
Purchase New Or Reuse Furniture: If you have any old, stained or uncomfortable furniture you have the option to either replace the furniture, or refresh it. If you are replacing your old outdoor furniture, make sure that you get something that will compliment the deck and your home. If you ware looking to refresh your furniture, you can easily replace the cushion with zip covers or slip covers.
Add Outdoor Lighting: While it’s super enjoyable to be on your deck during the day, you might want to have friends or family to enjoy it when the sun goes down as well. If this is the case, add some outdoor lighting to your deck area. Hang some string lights around the railing or the side of your home for a welcoming ambiance.
Grab Outdoor Rugs: A room isn’t complete without a rug! It adds a relaxing appeal not only inside your home but also outside as well. It can also bring softness to your patio, front porch, or deck area and encourages guests to sit, linger, and talk for hours. I like to place a few tables nearby for drinks that are an arm’s reach ( and also because I love hosting so I never want my friends to leave ). It’s also another way to add a pop of color to an area. I love adding cool blue tones in the summer with a few pops of hot pink or yellow to give a very sunny vibe. If neutral is more your idea of comfort, there are many great options such as a bamboo rug to give the feel of being in a jungle oasis.
There are plenty more ideas to help upgrade your home’s deck appeal but these are just a few that you can get started either this weekend or add to your to-do list to begin in the warmer months. Whatever the project you want to get started on, set goals both small and large to help you get it finished and moved onto the next one. As far as larger ones go, make sure to spread out the projects so you don’t become overwhelmed and begin researching now to help make the decision later.
Next week I’ll be sharing some fun ways I’m adding plants and flowers to my patio to complete my outdoor area. What ways are you getting ready to enjoy the summer season?

Preparing your deck for summer? These tips are fantastic for reviving your outdoor space! One additional suggestion: consider applying a protective coating after cleaning and sealing your deck. A UV-resistant coating can shield the wood from sun damage, extending its lifespan and keeping it looking fresh throughout the summer months. Cheers to a vibrant and inviting outdoor oasis for the season ahead!
